Malayan Sun Bear Adoption
At-a-glance: The sun bear is the world's smallest bear, weighing between 60 and 140 pounds and standing 4 feet tall. The yellowish crescent on its chest (which varies in size on each bear and may not even be present at all) is what lends the sun bear its name. Native to the forests of the Malay Peninsula, Java, Sumatra, Burma and Thailand, there are few sun bears left in the wild, due to habitat destruction and a lack of money for research in these nations.
Conservation status: Vulnerable
Omaha Zoo location: Durham’s Bear Canyon
